“If a given combination of trees, mountains, water, and houses, say a
landscape, is beautiful, it is not so by itself, but because of me, of my
favor, of the idea or feeling I attach to it.”

YouTube Video on Language as a Map

I discovered this video when checking out examples of Ignite presentations. Adrienne's project came to mind, but this talk gives all of us something to think about in terms of place: "Beingness," "Identity," "Experience" as well as "Map." Check out what he says at 3:52 about allowing the world to come inside of us.

  1. This is very much related to Beaudrillard's "simulacra" although he would dispute that there is any "beingness" beneath the "map."
